Luck: If You Don't Got It, You Gotta Work Harder.

I came across this Chinese Astrology website YEARS ago when I was looking for the Chinese birth gender calendars. I was shocked when I clicked the "Rise and Fall Chart of my life." What I found was that I was in the beginning years of a 20 year bad luck cycle. What on earth could that possibly mean? Had I really been that lucky for the 20 years before that?

My personal luck chart from chineseastrology.com

I believe this chart is kind of like 'biorythems' but with different wording. Luck is just the cycle of advantage that comes with positive energy and environment. What I didn't know then in my early 20's was that a very hard time was ahead of me.  Nothing was working out the way I planned... if I was able to plan anything at all. Unforeseen troubles were around every bend, health problems began to eat away at me. I met the man I married, but it was no easy task. Even on the day of our marriage we had surprise troubles. This is actually a pretty humorous story in retrospect so I'll share:

In the days before my marriage, we had a small group of friends and family coming in from all over the country. By no means were we having a traditional wedding... it was more of an -ehem- shotgun wedding, but without the shotgun initiative. The night before we were to marry in a poor attempt to keep something traditional, I spent the night at the hotel with my family leaving my husband and his friends (and a few other family members) at our apartment to have their celebration. I made absolutely sure to tell one of my husbands friends that he NEEDED to put a parking pass in his window because the apartment complex had notified everyone they were going to be enforcing their visitor pass policy a little harder. I told my husband as well. I thought my bases were covered.
The next morning I received a phone call. "[Friend]'s car is gone." Aghast, I stuttered, "but the parking pass was in his car right?!" It was a stupid question, of course it wasn't. My husband had told him to put the pass in the car like I'd instructed (and told Friend), but he never did. His car, and my husband's tux... and the tuxes of all the groomsmen were locked in impound. Because we had only one car, I drove friend to the impound lot so he could pay to get his car out... but he didn't have enough money. I begged the lot attendant "Please, just let me have the tuxes. I'm getting married today." No compassion, no tuxes. I paid the $118 to get Friend's car out of impound and hubby and I married a few hours later with only a few other minor problems.
I try to remind myself that sometimes the "bad luck" has left us with some pretty hilarious and outrageous stories. Other times, they have left visible scars that I'd care more to forget. According to this chart bad luck is any bar below the blue line, so I only have 8 or 9 more years to go. I feel like I'm serving it like a prison sentence, but the increase from the first 10 years to the second lot has already shown improvement. It's like I'm getting perks for good behavior.

I haven't let my "bad luck" make me lazy. I decided a long time ago, that I'd just have to work harder and I see the results. Heck if I can do this much with "bad luck" just think of what I can do with "good luck!?" (hopefully not get lazy).

My husband's chart is in a down cycle too, but he's just starting his, our kid's down cycles seem to coincide with our rough times. I guess that's good news, I always prefer to get the yucky stuff out of the way early. This way, if the chart is correct, I'm going to have a fantastic life ahead of me just as soon as I hit 40! So bring it on, I'll have paid my dues!
