What's the point of being older and wiser if you don't share what you know?
Yesterday night was a project I've been hoping would turn out really well... the NOOK Look and Learn. Meant to be an education pre-cursor to the Book Fair I'm chairing, the NOOK event was supposed to inform our parent public about the special features of Barnes and Noble's NOOK (which will be sold in-school).
I can skip all the stuff I learned about the special features of the NOOK... because honestly the only non-book fair/Barnes and Noble people to attend were the 2 people that RSVP'd. Love y'all btw... you showed when you said you would. If you want to know NOOK special features, Susan at B&N will tell you. She loves all 3 of her NOOK's and she's very knowledgeable about the product. It was a great educational experience for me; I'm sorry so few got to hear it.
What bugged me was that when it was all said and done with. I was still trying to being optimistic. So only 1 person + 2 kids showed. "That's not a failure, that's not reaching the public." I blamed myself... I mean who was I going to pin for the lack of success of this event? Life is crazy, it had to be that I just didn't promote it well between all the other stuff I've been doing.
The person I'm going to call Mr. G just for anonymity's sake... grumbled to me as he locked up, "Yeah well, in my experience none of these after 7PM things work out... except football."
So to that I have to say "DUUUUUDE! WTH??!!!" What is wrong with people, don't you get it that to make the best of something you have to share what you know. I checked, double checked, and triple checked the times. I gave Mr. G feedback opportunities before the event! Even HE was excited about sharing the NOOK because we carry 5 of them to lend out in the school. So WHY didn't he share that information?
I have been planning this book fair since AUGUST!!!!!!!
So he knew already it was going to fail before I ever started. That sure is fantastic of him. I honestly have been kind of hurt since he revealed his experiential knowledge. It shows what a noob I am, but maybe I'm a little too trusting and revealing anyway. I try really hard not to get jaded by life, and to continue to help people reach their goals, I mean why else to we all suffer? It's to help ourselves and each other.
The whole experience is kind of adding to my deep soul sucking exhaustion. I don't like being set-up to fail. But I guess I learned something. Ask more questions. Sure I've got great ideas sometimes... but if I don't have an audience they don't mean much. Really wishing I could take that community communications class now, I REALLY need it.
