His theory: Women just can't cook as well

Some very smart man I know told me: "I think women are more adventurous cooks... but they're just not as technical as men. Men are better cooks."

Well of course I griped, I worked my way up from being an inept-in-the-kitchen student who was to afraid to cook meat (and was vege-fromage-tarian by default) to a darn good one with a myriad of international dishes under my belt. Thai, Indian, French...shoot, I've got Greek on the menu tonight! I think for not being classically trained I'm pretty damn fantastic (if I do say so myself... and I did say so because I was mad at him). Besides men aren't better, I happen to not like some of Mr. Smart's cooking and it seems to take him especially long to actually get things done whenever he cooks.

But I realized tonight, that he might just be right. I'm back to being a not so wonderful cook. I've been trying to make my favorite dishes and I'm just not getting the flavors right. My curry... limey. My Tziki... watery, my southern chicken casserole... too much sherry. It's awful because the food is edible but it doesn't satisfy the flavors I'm going for, leaving me hungry for what I was trying to make in the first place. But since I don't have time to keep cooking, we just have to eat it and hope I get better again.

The reason why women may not be such 'spectacular, professional, chefs' is because many times we don't get all that un-distracted kind of time men do. See, while I was trying to make my family and friends a meal tonight, I also had to do the dishes, take child to karate, work on homework, print box lables, organize book fair, check up on our finances and that's not including all the stuff I didn't get to do. When Mr. Smart cooks... he just cooks.

Nay! He has the LUXURY of just cooking.

So I hope that MUG of SMUG with little marshmellow ego bits he's swallowing tastes as delicious as he thinks it does... because I say, he may be a fine cook... but if my houshold is a warzone of distraction and I still get edible and sometimes delicious food on the table - I, and all women like me - are much better cooks than men. Afterall if they were so much better at making dinner, why don't THEY do it all the time?
