This is just a little catch up blog. So much has happened since the start of the semester that I haven't really had time to blog.
A week before school started, our school computer system went down. It stayed down until days after the semester started. Well in the middle of all that nonsense, my French Prof asked me if I could help her set up a Remembrance Vigil for the Haiti Earthquake (which had personally effected her and others in our community). I felt like I was moving stone walls to get it done and on the night of the vigil we had our coldest night in January. It was bitterly cold and all in all only 8 people and myself showed up, but we were still able to pay tribute to those who continue to suffer in Haiti. News Crews were out and I realized (especially important to my major) that speaking to the news is difficult and requires that you think about every possible question they might ask you before you start talking. I've made a committment to help my teacher do something by next year at this time (and have signed on to do Haiti as my travel project with another Comm major/French minor in my Intercultural Communications class).
Well, then I got into the grit of homework. I made HOPE but have to maintain 3 classes per semester now which is a little scary and requires a balancing act like a tighrope walker over a pit of alligators. For the most part I'm enjoying them, and save for last weeks bout of sickness for the baby and my husband, we're still keeping that fine balance.
But then as one of our acting co-presidents of the French Club, I had to have another *great idea* and requested that crepes be served in honor of La Fete De La Chandeleur on February 2nd. Dining services was great and really excited about the idea. They asked if we could bring a few decorations and "come speak some french." Well what I wasn't clear on was that they wanted us to SERVE the crepes for 4 hours. With a little juggling and a last minute call to my mom begging to pick up my youngest girl from school, I worked from 11AM-2PM as head chef des crepes making sweet and savory lunch items for students.
The good news is they were TOTALLY excited about it (which makes my aching arms, back and legs feel much better, or at least a little). We had international students, French students, and adventurous eaters trying out our crepes and coming back for seconds. A few people asked if the crepe bar would become standard. Sorry, it was a one time deal... but maybe next year!
So I'm racing through this semester... we're already in February! Just gotta make it to May.
