This blog started in some awful computer class a few years ago when I was still getting my footing at Columbus State University. I wasn't a fan of that class (I mean they made me sign up for 2nd Life! Ugh); but I had already decided if I was in a class, I was supposed to learn something from it. To be honest, I considered my education God driven.
I had faith that I was going to learn what I needed to learn. I had faith that I was going to meet the people I needed to meet. I had faith I was going to do what needed to be done.
A couple of times along the way I lost my footing and became bitter, overwhelmed, and confused. Prayer put me back on track. I knew I needed to reach the end, but more than that I began to realize what I was learning was going to be a huge part of what I'm supposed to do later. That is an undeveloped plan.
Today I graduated.
I walked across the stage and shook hands with dozens of people that smiled at me and knew my name. I made an impact. I have confidence now that I can do even more. What struck me tonight was a sense of obligation that our guest speaker discussed. More than being obligated to the motto of the school, or the characteristics they hope we abide by - I realized that I have an obligation as an alumna to maintain the high standards of my department, as well as my connectivity to our community. I'm not gone, y'all. I have more to do here.
I find I still have these huge ideas floating through my head - if only you knew ;-) - I only hope I can live up to them.
Graduating sort of feels like my wedding. I came home late, exhausted, hungry, smiling, light, happy. I was surrounded by people I care about, that fully support me. My dad made me choke back a cry (he did the same my wedding day). What was so sweet, was coming home to my kids who hugged me and told me how proud they were of me. I hope they realize how important education is now. Calls and texts from my sister, brother, in-laws, and parents; messages from friends and family all over the country and the world; if I ever doubted the support I have, I know now how much they all care.
I am happy. I am motivated. I can't wait to see what comes next! Last night I tried to write a thank you speech that I could record and post for you all, but it was too much. There are too many. So just know if you have been in my life at all, I appreciate you. Thank you for your kind thoughts and words, it has been truly inspiring!
